Scientific Perspective

From the first encounter of the French merchant François Gravé du Pont and his men with the Montagnais of Tadoussac in the spring of 1603, and the landing of the Récollet missionaries at this same place in 1615, much information on the Innus-Montagnais (their way of life and subsistence, material and immaterial cultures and their beliefs) have been gathered.

Since then, searchers and scholars from many nationalities and various disciplines of the Humanities academic sphere (ethnologists, linguists, sociologists, archaeologists etc.) have enquired on the many aspects of the Innu culture of ancient and recent times. In the chapter Scientific Perspective, we are presenting the most commonly shared data on this People and its culture.
