Brian Bellefleur -I was six. My father and I had set up camp. He showed me how to take care of a fire. Then he left to hunt moose. I stayed alone at the camp. I kept the fire going. I ate bread, lots of bread. He didn't come back. When night fell, I was scared. The next day, I gathered wood and fed the fire. I hoped for his return. I was hungry. At the end of the day, I thought, "Nothing happened yesterday, why should anything happen to me?" I fell asleep and didn't have bad dreams. My father came back in the morning. We ate meat. I saw my father build a canoe. It was the year they cleared the portages. I was nine. I was with them on the trip. But I never thought I would make canoes. That year, David, Benoît and myself helped him make a new canoe. My father wanted to make a second one and we decided to make some more. We made about 15. They float well. They're light and hold lots of luggage.
