Laura Pinette - Around 4 o'clock, I felt the pains coming regularly. I waited till my partner finished work. He had invited me out to dinner. I said, "Yes, but let's stop by the hospital first". They examined me and I was 5 cm dilated. They kept me... I wasn't in pain, but I felt that the baby wanted to come out. Even though I came in at 5 o'clock, I was 8 cm dilated by 11 o'clock. The nurses and I found it strange that I wasn't in pain. Labour stopped completely at 8 cm. And it took till 6 the next morning before it started again. I was tired, exhausted, and hungry, I felt that the baby wanted to come out. The baby's head wasn't positioned right. It was stuck, unable to come out. They couldn't break the waters, and it was dangerous because it could get tangled in the cord. Every time they examined me it was as if the baby retreated, the pressure was painful. I was in pain, I was crying and my companion didn't know what to do. Finally I told the nurse to give me an epidural. The anaesthesiologist came at 7 o'clock the next morning. I was 10 cm dilated by 9 in the morning, and I started to push. I had been in labour for 12 hours and it still didn't come out. I pushed another 2 hours and finally, they consulted a gynaecologist. They used forceps. I was dead tired, I had no strength left. The baby was born right away. I thought I'd feel nothing with the epidural. But I felt the baby coming out. I gave birth at exactly 13 minutes after noon. They said, "It's a girl", and here I thought I was having a boy. I looked at my mother and we started to cry. We were really delighted to have a girl.
